Research Question

This series of workshops was put together by Cam Nicholson, Nicon Rural Services, Lisa Miller, Jessie Wettenhall, Michelle McClure, SFS  in response to the current 2024-2025 dry-uncertain times experienced across South West Victoria. The aim of the workshops was to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to plan and make good decisions over the next 3 months. Two workshops have been delivered across two locations Rokewood and Yulecart April 30 and May 1, 2025. A webinar was held on May 22, 2025 and the recording is available below. Two more workshops are being delivered in Ararat June 3 and Skipton June 4,2025

The workshop focused on assessing and planning to meet feed requirements for the Autumn/Winter under dry conditions with Lisa Miller & Michelle McClure, SFS.

Research Information & Objectives

The Tools and Resources below are to be used as a guide only, all pasture and crop modelling requires many assumptions (soil characteristics, fertility, utilisation etc). The pasture & crop growth graphs and tables were modelled assuming a soil fertility of 90% eg. Olsen P = 11 ppm, Colwell P = 23 ppm (low PBI) to 40 ppm (high PBI), Colwell K = 90 ppm (sand) to 120 ppm (clay) and KCL Sulphur of 6 ppm.  Changing fertility by 5% resulted in about a 5% change in monthly dry matter production (greater if fertility was lower).  If users have higher and poorer performing pastures, chose the same pasture type but modify the monthly pasture grown. The outputs are a guide only.  Every effort is made to ensure this information is accurate.
