Data, Statistics, Analysis, and Reports
The fun of harvest can’t last forever! Now that we have finished harvesting, it’s time to sit at the desk instead of the header. While getting the trials off represents the finish line for a year of work, it isn’t all over until the reports are written and the results book published.
Once trials have been harvested and grain tested through our lab, the results are then analysed through a statistics program which tell us if our results are due to the treatments or not. From here, we will write a scientific report which will cover background, method, results and discussion. I’m sure many of you have read these throughout the years. The report will detail the whole trial, including why it was researched in the first place and the results that were concluded.
As with science sometimes, it doesn’t always go as expected and you can even get some interesting results depending on the trial and the season. However, all the results we get are valuable in one way or another. I often say that getting no result is still a result, we can use it to help us learn more. The team will also include graphs, charts, diagrams, and photos to help explain the results and the story the trial is telling.
Once the report is written it will be published in our result books, which is available to members both in soft and hard copy.. The result book contains a range of information from trials to climate and weather data. The results book truly represents the year of work we do at SFS and also provides a resource for a number of stakeholders about our results and learnings from the 2022 season.
Our Results Day, which will be on the 22nd of March, is fast approaching and is another opportunity for us to broadcast our findings from the 2022 season. I highly recommend coming along to the Results Day in March. It is a great opportunity to connect with other grower’s, as well as hear about certain trials in more depth and have some great discussions!
