Southern Farming Systems: Year in review 2025

As we come to the end of 2025, the SFS Team would like to say thank you and reflect on what has been a big year for our High Rainfall Zone farming community.

After the challenges of recent seasons, 2025 has finished as a year of recovery for many. While conditions have varied across regions, we’ve seen growers across the HRZ adapt, reset and rebuild — supported by the practical knowledge-sharing and collaboration that sit at the heart of SFS.

It’s been incredibly encouraging to see our community continue to grow. Grower membership increased strongly, with this momentum also reflected in higher Farm Associate membership. This reinforces the value of farmer-led research, practical extension and strong networks — particularly in tougher times.

In 2025, SFS directly delivered more than 86 events — roughly one every four days. From paddock to paddock and region to region, it’s been great to see members coming together to learn, share experiences and challenge ideas.

It was also a year of change for the team. We farewelled Audrey to an exciting role at CSIRO, and we were delighted to welcome two outstanding new graduates, Max and Isabelle, who have already become valued members of the SFS family.

And of course, 2025 marked a very special milestone — 30 years of Southern Farming Systems. Celebrating this anniversary with members old and new was a powerful reminder of the strength, longevity and impact of farmer leadership over three decades.

On behalf of the Board and the entire SFS Team, thank you for your continued support, involvement and trust. Whether you’ve supported through partnership, hosted trials, attended events or simply stayed connected, you’ve helped make 2025 a year to be proud of.
