New Nitrogen Project for SFS

In 2021 urea prices soared and sourcing was difficult.  Making growers prioritise getting the most out of their urea applications. At the 2022 GRDC National Grower Network(NGN) Forum in Tatyoon growers voiced the need for better understanding of urea applications and timings, a project tender was offered in 2023, in which SFS was successful.

The project will run over two years and include both trial work, workshops and paddock scale demonstrations. There are several trials that are set to commence in 2024. These trials will look at developing nitrogen response curves in both canola and wheat, at both a high nitrogen site and a low nitrogen site. Other trials will explore different nitrogen application timing’s  in both canola and wheat.

The paddock scale demonstrations will be based upon what local growers and industry professionals would like to explore. If you have any ideas or would like to be involved, please feel free to reach out to Greta Duff E:gduff@sfs.org.au. This may include things such as exploring different forms/sources of nitrogen e.g. liquid nitrogen, coated urea applications etc.

The first workshop will occur in June 2024, that will cover the economics and diminishing returns of fertilisers, especially urea. Other workshops will cover decision making, precision agriculture and more…

Please keep an eye out for more information on these!
