Carbon Farming and Farm Emissions Workshops in South-West Victoria
Farmers and advisors across South West Victoria are being encouraged to learn more about the impact of carbon on agricultural productions systems and how harnessing it may benefit their farm business by attending upcoming carbon farming workshops.
Project Trainer, James Palmer, from Southern Farming Systems (SFS) said “the upcoming workshops are the perfect opportunity for local farmers to learn more and potentially unlock improved sustainability and profitability of their farm business”.
The National Industry-led Carbon Farming Outreach Program is delivering primary producers the un-biased, practical carbon farming information they need to prepare their businesses for the opportunities that already exist and continue to develop in agriculture.
Farmers and advisors who participate in the workshops will leave with an understanding of how the carbon cycle works within their farming operation, how to calculate the carbon intensity of their business, and how they can learn more about reducing emissions intensity and storing carbon.
“This is a great opportunity for any producer in the area to build their fundamental carbon farming knowledge and we look forward to seeing plenty of growers and industry people attend,” said local consultant, Murray Johns, who is supporting SFS in delivering the workshops.
Two Introduction to Carbon Farming and Farm Emissions workshops were delivered in March at Winchelsea and Tatyoon. These workshops were well attended and growers attending said that “it was a great opportunity to build their knowledge in Carbon Farming with the topics presented in relatable terms”.
Two more workshops will be delivered in South-West Victoria for the Carbon Farming Outreach Program, at Hamilton May 8th and “Murdeduke Angus” Winchelsea June 3rd open to all, please register by visiting https://sfs.org.au/communications/events or call James 0485 535 802.
Grower Group Alliance (GGA) Chief Executive, Rikki Foss, said partnering with grower groups like Southern Farming Systems is integral to the delivery of the program, given their connection to local primary producers.
“GGA is proud to be working with Southern Farming Systems to deliver the local workshops and awareness raising activities of this program, which is designed to help farmers practically prepare for a future where carbon knowledge is integral to farming,” Ms Foss said.
“Southern Farming Systems has a proven track record engaging with the local community and is respected by local farmers as a trusted source of information, both of which made them a natural partner for this program.”
The National Industry-led Carbon Farming Outreach Program is delivered with funding support from the Commonwealth of Australia through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water under the Carbon Farming Outreach Program, led by Grower Group Alliance.
